Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education

Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education

Private EMT Training Programs in California need to be approved by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) as well as the local EMS Agency.

The BPPE has specific requirements that requires us to post certain information on our website including:

What is an EMT?

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) provide out of hospital BLS (Basic Life Support) emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system.

EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills to assess a patient's condition and to manage emergencies such as those related to respiratory, cardiac, or trauma incidents. EMTs generally function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.

EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system and are commonly found employed by both private and public ambulance services, municipal EMS agencies, governments, hospitals, and fire departments.
